The importance of democracy was on the agenda when a Norwich MP visited youngsters at a junior school.

Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, visited Old Catton Junior School on Friday to take part in their school assembly on democracy.

It came ahead of their internal elections for school council representatives.

Ms Smith spoke to year six pupils about the responsibilities of elected representatives and the importance of being on the school council.

She said: 'It was a pleasure to visit Old Catton Junior School ahead of their school council elections to talk about the importance of democracy.

'I think it is vital for MPs to work with schools to explain democracy, elections and politics. It's easy for schools, parents, students or youth groups in Norwich North to contact me to organise a trip to parliament. I was really impressed with the children's ideas and their school council.'
