A Holby City star returned to his old Norfolk school with an inspiring message to pupils of how he went to being a quiet and timid young boy to an internationally-acclaimed actor.

Nic Jackman completed his A-levels in English literature, drama, business studies and critical thinking at what is now Attleborough Academy before training at the world-renowned London academy of music and dramatic art (LAMDA).

From there he landed many high-profile parts on stage and screen before his current role as Cameron, son of Bernie Wolfe, in the long-running BBC television hospital drama Holby City.

He has also been acting in a feature film called Silencio starring John Noble and Rupert Graves, which will be screened at festivals and released in the later part of 2018.

Mr Jackman returned to Attleborough Academy as the guest speaker for this year's annual presentation evening, where staff, students, parents and members of the community gather to celebrate the school's achievements through the last academic year.

Mr Jackman gave a motivational talk on his journey from being a quiet and timid student in year-seven to currently acting in a feature film recording in Mexico.

'What a delight it is to be in the company of such hard-working and high-achieving students,' he said.

'My education and experiences from the academy have played a huge part in shaping who I am. I'm very grateful for the support and recognition I received while studying here and it's a real pleasure to be back as their guest speaker.

'Celebrating the achievements of these students and encouraging them to fulfil their ambitions on special evenings like this really is important.

'I wish them all every success.'

A spokesman from the school said: 'His speech had a great impact on everyone present, as he spoke about the importance of setting high aims for yourself and persevering through setbacks.'

Head girl Chloe Mathison and head boy Matthew Wallis thanked Mr Jackman for his involvement in the event, where he spoke and distributed awards.

Current students were rewarded for their achievements by gaining cups for performance, progress and attainment.

The evening was supported by generous donations of many nearby businesses and sponsors.
