A primary school has received a seal of approval from Ofsted as part of its first inspection since becoming an academy.

Stradbroke Primary Academy in Gorleston has been given an overall rating of good following a two day inspection last month.

Two of the five categories inspected at the Inspiration Trust-run school were rated as outstanding - the personal development, behaviour and welfare of pupils and its early years provision.

Before the school was taken over by the trust in December 2014, its previous guise as Stradbroke Primary School had been placed on special measures by Ofsted.

The Ofsted report stated: 'Leaders and governors are passionate about the care, welfare and education of every pupil who attends the school.'

The report added: 'As a result of strong leadership, children in the Reception class get off to a flying start. 'They very quickly settle into the stimulating and inviting environment that leaders and staff have created.'

English and maths key stage 1 and 2 standards had risen and pupils typically make good progress in reading, writing and mathematics

The report added: 'As a result of consistently high expectations by all staff, pupils behave exceptionally well, both inside and outside the classroom.

'They are courteous, polite and eager to take part in lessons. Parents say that their children thrive at Stradbroke.'

Executive principal Stephen Astley said: 'We are delighted Ofsted have recognised the strengths of the academy, and to have secured such a positive report.

'The school has come a long way since becoming an academy in December 2014 and leaving special measures, thanks to the unstinting support of both our wonderful school community and the Inspiration Trust.

'I am proud of our teachers and support staff and of our pupils and parents for what they do everyday.'

Ofted said the school could improve by pupils using maths and English skills in other subjects, teachers having the same high expectations of pupils' achievement in all subjects, leaders fully understanding the part they play in raising achievement and improvement plans based on regular assessment of pupils' achievement.
