A Hethersett infant school has celebrated retaining its outstanding Ofsted inspection result.

Hethersett Woodside Infant and Nursery School was visited by inspectors last month for a one-day monitoring visit, the school's first since achieving its 'outstanding' result in 2007.

Ofsted visited the school after there was a decline in standards in 2016 at the end of the early years foundation stage, in particular in disadvantaged pupils, in girls' achievement in maths and boys' achievement in writing.

However, during the visit the school's own data showed there had already been considerable improvement in 2017, and new writing and maths programmes had already had a significant impact.

Inspectors said pupils love coming to school, with one pupil telling them: 'I like everything about this school. I can't choose what to say.'

Staff also were praised for creating a nurturing environment.

Headteacher Angela Jermy said: 'Everyone at the school is thrilled that this inspection has recognised our commitment to do the very best for our children.

'Our ethos is to nurture our pupils and to help them develop a life-long love of learning. I'm particularly pleased the inspector highlighted how happy and safe our children feel at school.

'Our success is a real team effort. We have fantastic staff and are lucky to receive tremendous support from both parents and the wider community.'

Simon Cooper, chairman of governors, said: 'We have tremendous staff and I am glad that this report recognises all of their hard work and commitment to do the best for our pupils.

'This inspection has come at an exciting time, as we prepare to become an all-through primary school.

'It gives us the impetus to prepare for the changes the school will face over the next couple of years and the confidence to plan for the future knowing that the school is in a really strong position.'

Hethersett Woodside will become an all-through primary school in 2019, moving to a new site in the village.

The inspector made recommendations regarding the school's written improvement plan; the recording of methods used in maths; and funding information on its website.
