When a young person turns 17, the excitement of learning to drive kicks in. The thoughts of freedom and independence is enough to convince anyone, however there are some young people who feel that it is more of a pressure to learn. So what about those who don't feel ready to drive?

Of course, learning to drive comes with many perks, from late night rides with your friends to being able to pick up your keys and go anywhere you wish at any time.

Having been a learner driver for a year and four months now, I must admit, I cannot wait to get my hands on my licence.

But there are some people who feel less eager to learn. Whether it's the cost or just simply not feeling confident enough yet, some young people don't feel it is a necessity in their current life.

Katie Edwards, 18, Aylsham, is one of those who feels that currently she has no reason to need to learn to drive.

She said: 'My job is in my hometown, and the only time I will need to go out of town is if I am in the city, which even then is only a 30-minute bus ride. I have weighed both positives and negatives and I am comfortable with not driving at the moment.

'The pressure people put on me is ridiculous.'

Katie is not the only one to feel like this, and online there are many chat forums which young people have turned to in order to express their thoughts on not feeling ready. Most even state how parents and friends are the ones putting pressure on them to learn, leaving them unsure of what to do.

Driving is a lifetime skill, but is there really a need to rush?
