Schools around the county got involved with Roald Dahl Day on Wednesday, which saw youngsters and teachers encouraged to dress up as characters from the author's books.

As well as a celebration of his career, the national day raises funds for Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, which helps seriously ill children in the UK.

Among those recognising the day locally were Howard Junior School in King's Lynn, which saw Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompas, both from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, among the characters arriving at school.

Meanwhile, Hillcrest Primary School, in Downham Market, also got into the spirit and donned fancy dress.

It came as the school launched its new text-linked curriculum (TLC), which puts children's books at the heart of all its studies.
