A team of students from Norwich have taken pole position after winning an award for designing a Formula One team and constructing a miniature race car.
Alpha Racing from Sprowston Community High School won the Team Identity Award at the F1 in Schools STEM Challenge UK finals.
The team of five boys - George Madeley, 16, Luke Wiggett, 16, Lewis Martin, 16, Benjamin Humphrey, 15 and Blake Leonard, 16 - spent hundreds of hours working on their car, display, verbal presentation and portfolio.
The group presented their work at a special event which took place at the world-famous racing track Silverstone.
All the students that took part were treated to a Silverstone Grand Prix circuit lap in their school minibuses led by former BBC Top Gear Stig, Ben Collins, in a Ferrari 488 GTB supercar.
F1 in Schools challenges students to create their own Formula One team which is designed and then made into a miniature model before being raced.
The cars are a 21cm scale model built from a modelling block and powered by a compressed air cylinder.
The cars raced down a 20m track which took less than a second for some of the race cars. Each team created a pit display and showcased how they developed their race car.
The judges commended the team for their presentation and said: 'All the elements were well-branded and flowing through their car and portfolio, their merchandise and pit display.'
Founder and chairman of F1 in Schools Andrew Denford said: 'Every year we see the teams raising their game, whether it's the pit displays, the car designs or the portfolios.
'All the students put a tremendous amount of work into the competition and have shown that there is plenty of engineering talent in the UK, ready to be guided into industry careers.
'The competition also gives students life skills and experiences that will always be beneficial for them and we're proud to play a small part in their career paths and future success.'
The award is supported by Formula One World Championship-winning teams Ferrari, McLaren and Williams Racing.
