Years ago, you only got a star for doing well at school.

But students at Nelson Academy in Downham Market were given the full star treatment at Arbuckles' restaurant on the A10, just outside the town.

Thirty lucky children enjoyed a celebratory lunch with certificate winners, governors and staff.

Acting principal Sarah Wilson said it was a new incentive to encourage hard work and dedication in the classroom.

Children in attendance had been recognised for their efforts throughout the autumn term, at a recent governors' certificate-giving ceremony at the academy.

Two children from each class were awarded certificates for either excellent academic achievement or for being an outstanding role model.

She said: 'We invited parents into the academy, to attend an assembly where the academy's governors handed out the certificates.

'We then announced that the children would be going to Arbuckles to celebrate, which was a complete surprise to everyone in the room.

'This is the first reward day of its kind for the primary phase academy.

'It's been a great success and we are now looking to repeat the prize-giving and surprise celebration every term as a 'well done' to the students for all their hard work.'

Dr Duncan Ramsey, director of education for CWA Academy Trust, also attended the lunch.

He said: 'On behalf of the trust, it is a great pleasure to recognise the hard work and dedication of these children throughout the term.'
