A woman has been arrested over a robbery in which an 85-year-old woman was pushed to the floor and kneeled on by a robber who stole cash from her in Great Yarmouth.

The 31-year-old woman was arrested this morning (Thursday) on suspicion of robbery and has been taken into custody at Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre to be interviewed by detectives.

The victim suffered cracked ribs and bruising in the attack - which happened at 6am on Monday at a property in Louise Close -

described by DC Kevin Maskell of Great Yarmouth CID as 'despicable'.

At about 6 am a woman knocked on the door of the victim's flat. When the victim answered the woman pushed past her into the flat and claimed she needed money and bandages, saying her boyfriend had been stabbed.

When the victim went to call the police the robber pushed her to the floor and knelt on her chest asking her where her money was. The robber searched the flat and stole a wallet and cash before fleeing.

The robber is described as a tall, white female with a husky voice who was wearing a hooded top.

DC Kevin Maskell of Great Yarmouth CID said: 'This was a despicable robbery on vulnerable woman.

'I would like to reassure residents that incidents of this nature are thankfully rare which is why it is of upmost importance for anyone who can assist us to come forward.'

Police are continuing to appeal for information from anyone who was in the area around 5.30am to 7am.
