Two Norwich City fans accused of making racist noises during the club's game against Wolverhampton Wanderers have been suspended from Carrow Road

The pair have been banned by the club, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation by its officials into their alleged behaviour during Sunday's game at Molineux stadium.

Canary fans reported two of their own supporters were allegedly making monkey sounds at Wolves players during the 1-0 Championship defeat.

They complained to Norwich City and West Midlands police today confirmed they are investigating - and will be taking statements from witnesses.

Both clubs have been working closely with authorities, with Norwich warning that anyone found guilty may face a life ban from Carrow Road.

A spokesman for the club said that decision will be made by the end of the week, assuring fans that if the two people are found guilty of the offence then they will not be at any future games.

An appeal process is available for individuals who are issued with a ban – but they cannot attend any matches until the appeal has been decided.

A witness to the alleged incident said he and others were 'outraged' at what they saw and alerted stewards.

'It was sickening to witness such a disgraceful racist incident at close quarters,' the fan said. 'I've never ever seen or heard anything like this before at a game and I'm disgusted that a person like this was wearing a City shirt.'

Meanwhile, the anti-discrimination campaign group Kick It Out has praised the actions of the Norwich fans who reported the incident.

Lord Herman Ouseley, chairman of Kick It Out, said: 'This incident proves the power of supporters coming together to confront discriminatory behaviour.'

In October last year police investigated fresh allegations that racist abuse was directed towards former City manager Chris Hughton.
