Crime almost melted away in Sheringham last month - thanks largely to the snow and ice.

PC Ian Smith told the town council last week that there were three recordable crimes in the period from January 1 to 31 - a 90pc drop compared to the same period in 2012.

He said: 'I would like to say we've cracked this policing job, but I think it's really down to the snow and ice.'

PC Smith said two of the crimes were minor public order incidents. The first was when a parking enforcement officer was 'verbally abused', and the other was when a 'drunken male' chased a taxi and kicked it after the driver asked him to remove cones from the road.

PC Smith also reported that officers had carried out speed checks on Common Lane.
