A 20-year-old man from Norwich has been charged with attempted theft after he was found on a church roof in Coltishall on Wednesday.

Officers attended St John the Baptist Church, on Church Street, at approximately 9.30pm that night to reports of suspicious activity.

On arrival, Ross Martin of St James Close in Norwich was found on the roof of the church. He was arrested on suspicion of theft and being in possession of a knife.

Martin was taken to Aylsham Police Investigation Centre where he was questioned and later charged with these offences as well as criminal damage.

A man aged in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were also arrested in connection with the theft. They have both been released from custody with no bail conditions although they remain under investigation as the enquiry continues.

Martin has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Norwich Magistrates Court today.
