A police officer suffered a broken finger as he tried to break up a fight and another was assaulted by a drunken woman in King's Lynn last night.

Trouble flared in the town's Norfolk Street, during what one senior officer described as 'a busy shift'.

A male officer suffered a broken finger as he tried to separate two men who were about to start fighting.

No-one has been arrested so far in connection with the assault, but officers will be examining CCTV footage to try to identify the men.

In a separate incident, a female officer was assaulted on Norfolk Street as she tried to arrest a woman for being drunk and disorderly. A woman is currently in custody.

As the evening began, police tweeted pictures of long queues outside a nightspot.
