People living in the Sprowston, Heartsease and Mousehold areas of north Norwich were left looking to the skies this evening.
A police helicopter was flying around the area between 9.30pm and 10.30pm with spotlights shining down on Mousehold Heath and several police cars on the ground in the area.
A Norfolk Constabulary spokesman confirmed officers had been searching for a missing woman, who had been hiding.
Several people had taken to social network Twitter to try and find out what was going on, with the official @NorfolkPolice account tweeting: 'Norfolk Police would like to reassure the public the helicopter deployment in Norwich tonight was nothing for anyone to be concerned about.'
