A Norwich man who attacked another man with a hammer after they were involved in a feud has been jailed for 11 years.

Darren Fenn, 39, who had been drinking, went round to the home of David Frost, in Shipfield, Sprowston, and hit him over the head with a hammer

He later admitted that he could have killed him, Norwich Crown Court heard.

Stephen Spence prosecuting, said that police were called and Fenn was arrested and told police he was sorry for what he had done.

However Mr Frost, who had to be treated for his injuries following the attack, refused to co-operate with any police statement about the incident, the court heard.

Fenn also of Shipfield, Sprowston, Norwich, admitted wounding Mr Frost with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was jailed for 11 years.

Judge Mark Lucraft accepted that after the attack Fenn was immediately full of remorse.

'You told police 'I'm sorry for what I have done. I know what I did was wholly inappropriate and I could have killed him.'

He said that Fenn, who did not normally drink alcohol, was extremely drunk when he carried out the attack having consumed a bottle of vodka. There was an 'ongoing feud' between the two men and Fenn was angry.

Judge Lucraft said although there was a feud between the two men he said :'What ever the dispute between you and Mr Frost it was no excuse for what you did.'

Michael Clare for Fenn, said that he had put his time while on remand to good use and said that he was full of remorse for what he had done.

He said that although Fenn had a number of previous convictions, they were not for violence and said that the offence was 'out of character'.
