A 22-year-old who stole a bike while on a suspended prison sentence has avoided jail.

Jack Addison, of Anmer Terrace in King's Lynn, cut through a lock before stealing a push bike from the back of Hospital Walk in King's Lynn last year.

The bike was discovered by police officers on December 1, 2017, who attended a flat in relation to 'noise' issues, Norwich Crown Court heard on Thursday.

Danielle O'Donovan, prosecuting, said Addison was arrested and made a 'full admission' to theft and criminal damage.

'He is a young man who is co-operative with the system,' she said.

The court heard how Addison was subject to a 16-month suspended prison sentence at the time of the offence, which was imposed by Norwich Crown Court on February 15, 2017.

John Morgans, for Addison, said: 'He is his own worst enemy and he is under no illusion as to how serious this is.'

He said the defendant had been 'knuckling down' with the community order imposed last year.

'He has had long-standing difficulties with mental health and that in the past has been to do with drugs, which he is now clean of.'

Recorder Douglas Herbert told Addison that he risked going to prison due to breaching the suspended sentence.

'However,' Mr Herbert said. 'Because you appear to be doing so well, and having done so much unpaid work, and engaging with your rehabilitation requirements, I will not be taking the draconian step of sending you to prison.

'This is definitely your last chance.'

Addison was given a two year conditional discharge, and his suspended sentence order was extended to 21 months. He was also ordered to carry out an additional 20 hours of unpaid work.
