A Bramford motorcyclist, who has admitted causing the death of his pillion passenger through dangerous driving by having a defective rear tyre, has been warned he could be jailed.

Sue Wright, of St Edmund's Road, Southwold, died after a single-vehicle crash in Peasenhall Road, Walpole, near Halesworth, on July 14 last year.

The 60-year-old was on the pillion of a Kawasaki VN 1500 C2 being ridden by Mark Kepler, who was airlifted to hospital after sustaining injuries as a result of the crash.

Kepler, 56, of Hibbard Road, Bramford, initially pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving but changed his plea to guilty at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday.

Adjourning sentence until after August 7 to allow members of Ms Wright's family to attend the hearing, Judge Rupert Overbury said: 'Plainly in this sort of case I'm going to have to consider imprisonment.'

However, he said he hadn't made up his mind and it might be possible for him to pass a suspended sentence.

'Please don't go away from here today thinking I've made up my mind and that because I've granted you unconditional bail it won't be immediate custody when you return as it is a real prospect,' said the judge.

Roger Thomson, for Kepler, said his client had no previous convictions.

A previous hearing heard that Kepler's motorcycle was involved in a low speed crash on a quiet rural road caused by the 'catastrophic failure of the rear tyre due to previous poor maintenance'.

The court heard that police were called to Peasenhall Road shortly after 6pm on July 14.

Attempts were made to resuscitate Ms Wright, a mother-of-two, but she died at the scene.

Kepler was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital after sustaining broken ribs as a result of the crash.

Following the tragedy Ms Wright's family released a tribute to her.

It read: 'Sue was kind, loving and full of life. She enjoyed weekends away in her camper-van, socialising and the occasional drink. She will be dearly missed by her two children Christopher and Marie-Louise and her father Sidney.'
