A parish council is calling on the controversial decision to axe all of Norfolk’s Police Community Support Officers to be reversed
Martham Parish Council has resolved to write to Lorne Green, the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner, asking him to challenge the Home Office over police funding cuts and insist Norfolk is given sufficient funds to maintain all frontline officers.
The council says the move is necessary to retain visible policing in the community.
MORE; police petition cutsIt comes after Chief Constable of Norfolk, Simon Bailey, announced last month that 150 PCSOs would be axed and replaced with 81 police officers and 16 non-officer roles to save £2m.
Martham Parish Council has also asked Mr Green to attend its next meeting to explain his stance on the issue.
The cuts, which also include closing seven police stations, would come into effect in April following a consultation. Norfolk police has to save £10m by 2020.
