A judge hit out at a man who tried to blame his ex-partner for him getting angry and throwing a knife and told him he had no one to blame but himself.

Sabastian Bello, 29, had been preparing food with his former partner at her home, in Norwich, when they had started to row and in a temper he threw a kitchen knife at her causing injury, Norwich Crown Court heard.

Peter Gair, prosecuting, said at first the 25 year-old woman thought she had been punched in the back by Bello but was terrified to find out she had a stab wound when she saw blood on her floor.

He said that she felt faint, hot and sweaty.

Mr Gair said that Bello had told the victim, who was bleeding from the wound, that it was all her fault and said: 'This is what you made me do. You make me so angry. It's all your fault.'

Mr Gair said Bello had phoned 999 for an ambulance but lied about what happened and tried to claim it had been an accident.

He said Bello went to hospital with the victim and she needed two stitches to the 1cm wound.

In an impact statement she said she felt 'terrified' about what happened and suffered some discomfort as a result of the injury.

Bello of Bishopbridge House, Norwich, admitted causing actual bodily harm on August 22, last year.

Jailing him for 12 months and making him subject to a restraining order to keep away from his ex-partner, Recorder Andrew Shaw told Bello: 'It is not her fault, it is your fault.'

He accepted that Bello had threw the kitchen knife at her in anger and said: 'This was domestic violence.'

He said the restraining order would be for an indefinite period.

John Morgans, for Bello, said he was full of genuine remorse and knew he had to be punished for the offence.

He said that he had been using drugs at the time and said: 'He has a real insight into the effect of what he did and how it could have been so much worse. He takes full responsibility for what he has done.'

Mr Morgans added: 'He is thoroughly ashamed of what he has done.'
