A man who was arrested on suspicion of rape following an incident in Cromer has been released under investigation.

Norfolk police are exploring the possibility of links between the rape and matters of public disorder in Cromer over the weekend.

The man in his 30s was arrested by police in Essex on the morning of Monday, August 21.

It followed an incident on Friday night, August 18, at about 11.30pm after a woman in her late teens reported being raped at a bus stop on Cadogan Road by two men.

There were several incidents of public disorder in the town over the weekend, but police have denied that Cromer was on 'lock down'.

On Saturday night, venues in the seaside town closed their doors due to thefts and anti-social behaviour.

A Norfolk police spokesman said: 'A man has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.'
