A Suffolk man accused of raping and assaulting two women he met on the Plenty of Fish dating website has been cleared of raping one of the women.

Before Ipswich Crown Court was Conrad Nelson, 37, of Raglan Street, Lowestoft, who denied two offences of rape and one of assault by beating in respect of one of the women, and one offence of rape, assault by beating and two offences of assault by penetration in relation to the other woman.

Today after ten hours of deliberations a jury cleared him of two offences of rape, one offence of assault by beating and one offence of assault by penetration.

He was found guilty of one charge of assault by beating and the jury was discharged after failing to reach verdicts on the remaining rape and assault by penetration charges.

The case was adjourned until next Wednesday to allow the prosecution to decide if it wants a retrial on the charges the jury failed to reach verdicts on.

Following his arrest Nelson claimed he had consensual sex with the women.
