A teacher at a top Norfolk private school has gone on trial accused of sex offences involving an underage girl.

Robbie Brittain, 29, of Old Oak Close, Wymondham, has denied engaging in sexual activity with a girl under 16 and sex activity with the girl while in a position of trust.

Norwich Crown Court heard the alleged offences took place while Brittain was a teacher at Langley School, near Loddon.

Lori Tucker, prosecuting, said that the allegations came to light after the girl confided to school friends what happened.

'Teaching staff became involved and the matter was reported to police.

She said that Brittain had denied anything had happened: 'He denied he acted inappropriately towards her.

Giving evidence from behind a screen, the girl said Brittain first touched her thigh when he gave her a lift in his car, but she said she thought it was just a 'friendly gesture'.

She said that he had acted in a 'touchy feely' way with her and went on to sexually assault her during study sessions and claimed he asked her 'not to tell anyone.'

She said she kept quiet about the alleged sex assault and it was not until later that she told anyone what happened and said: 'I blocked a lot of it out.'

Cross-examined by Andrew Shaw she denied she was lying about what happened in order to get attention.

The trial continues.
