A man tried to smuggle cannabis into prison by storing it in a Kinder egg container and hiding it in his buttocks.

Andrew Harding appeared via videolink at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday charged with conveying items into HMP Norwich.

The 35-year-old was being transferred from Peterborough to the prison on December 7 last year when he was caught.

Prosecutor Martin Ivory said he was found with a Kinder egg capsule between his buttocks by prison staff in Norwich.

Around 5.66g of cannabis was found, along with two mobile phones and two USB chargers hidden elsewhere, the court heard.

Harding, of Myrtle Avenue, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to the charge against him.

Judge Katharine Moore said Harding had 40 convictions for 103 offences between December 1997 and April 2017.

She sentenced him to eight months imprisonment.
