Five people have been arrested after an incident near Downham Market.

They are being held on suspicion of going equipped for theft, after an incident on Silt Road, Nordelph at around 5.30pm on Monday, May 8.

Police said a blue Ford Escort was involved in a collision shortly after passing a police car travelling in the opposite direction.

The police car turned around, the Ford made off at speed and crashed into a field a short time later. The police car was not involved in a pursuit at any time.

The driver, who was cut free from the vehicle, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment to a head injury.

Four other passengers, all men, were taken to hospital as a precaution and checked over, before being discharged.

Five men aged between 19 and 25, have been arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft and taken to King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre, where they remain in custody.
