A thief was arrested as he stole a bike from the town's railway station - unaware two plain-clothed officers were watching.
King's Lynn police later tweeted: 'Male charged today with theft of a bike from the Railway Stn. He stole it in front of plain clothes officers! #WrongPlaceWrongTime.' Officers have warned cyclists to ensure their machines are well-secured after a spike in bike thefts in Lynn.
More than 40 cycles have been stolen in the town since January. Most of the thefts have occurred in the town centre, including four bikes stolen in two separate incidents on successive Saturdays from outside the Majestic Cinema, on Tower Street.
Officers say cyclists should not leave their machines in isolated or dimly lit places. They should leave their bike where a potential thief will be clearly visible.
Bike should be locked to an immovable object like a bike rack, ground anchor or robust street furniture, along with a stout D-lock.
