The missile - which cannot be legally fired at game in Britain - was found embedded in a lawn in King's Lynn.

Officers were called after the arrow landed on Gresham Close, Reffley, at around 5.15pm on Saturday.

They seized the Rage Hunting Arrow, which has a metal tip and was embedded into the lawn by about 8 - 9ins.

PCSO Jackie Richards said: 'We are keen to trace the person who fired this arrow as clearly this has the potential to cause harm.

'Officers did carry out initial house-to-house enquiries nearby but these did not provide any leads. We would be keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information concerning the owner of this arrow.'

The British Bowhunters Association website says: 'Hunting with the bow and arrow was prohibited in the UK in 1965. In the most up-to-date Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 its legal status remains unchanged.'

Bowhunting is legal in many other parts of the world, including France where there are an estimated 14,000 hunters who are allowed to kill game with their arrows.

Anyone with information should contact PCSO Richards at King's Lynn police on 101.
