A member of a circus company injured on stage in Norwich last night is recovering well, a spokesman for the show has said.

Race Horse Company was performing the show Super Sunday at Norwich Theatre Royal when the incident happened during the human catapult scene in the second act.

As the catapult was being set up on stage something went wrong and the contraption swung around and hit the technician on the head.

The show - part of this year's Norfolk and Norwich Festival - was temporarily stopped and an ambulance was called to the Theatre Street venue and took the technician to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Axel Satgé, tour manager, said: 'If you attended Super Sunday last night and are concerned about the technician who was hit in the head during one of the tricks, we wanted to let you know that he visited A&E and thankfully it is just a surface wound so no concussion as a result.

'He'll rest for a few days and will be absolutely fine.'

David Powles, who was in the audience last night, said: 'It was a really strange moment because half of the audience seemed to think it was part of the act, while the rest realised something had gone wrong.

'It made an awful sound and given the equipment was carrying the weight of four people on it, it could have been much, much worse I guess.

'Needless to say the show did go on and I'm just glad he is okay. Apart from that worrying moment, it was a fantastic performance.'
