Broadland Chess Club travelled to Suffolk to play Ipswich in the final of the Norfolk and Suffolk Cup - and brought the trophy back to the county once again.
The cup final is the climax of an exciting competition lasting throughout the year in which all of the Norfolk clubs play each other, likewise the Suffolk clubs.
Then the winning club of both counties play each other for the cup. Each team is made up of six players.
After four hours of play the teams were level with 2½ points each with the result dependant on the last game. With neither player willing to concede the game the battle continued into the final minutes of the five-hour playing session, with Ken McEwan finally forcing a checkmate. The result then being 3½-2½.
The chess club, which is one of the largest in Norfolk, meets at the King's Head, Coltishall on both Monday and Wednesday at 7.30pm, all new members of any age or standard are welcome to attend.
