The stage adaptation of J.B Priestley's classic thriller will be at the city venue from December 1 to 5, and some adult volunteer actors are needed to play walk-on roles.

Judy Foster, from Norwich Theatre Royal, said: 'This opportunity offers the chance to gain a fascinating insight into what it feels like to be part of a professional production and appear on the Theatre Royal stage in front of an audience of up to 1,300 people each night. An Inspector Calls is such an iconic story and the production is so inventively staged that I'm sure for those who take part, it will be a highly memorable experience.'

The haunting drama, directed by Stephen Daldry, sees a middle class dinner party thrown into disarray by an inspector investigating the death of a young woman. The company is looking for four men and four women to be supernumeraries, or extras, in the show. They will be on stage for a few moments in each performance, playing non-speaking roles that help to create a sense of a crowd. Those applying ideally need to be aged between 30 and 80, but the company will take applications from people aged 17 and above. Previous stage experience is not essential, although volunteers will be expected to retain key pieces of direction and character notes. The rehearsal schedule is to be confirmed but volunteers will be expected to be at the theatre from 2.30pm to 5pm on Tuesday, December 1. Performances are at 7.30pm from Tuesday, December 1 to Saturday, December 5, with 2.30pm matinees on the Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. To apply, people should email their name and date of birth to Charlotte Peters at charlotte.e.peters@gmail.com

They will then be sent a registration form. The closing date for applications is 5pm on October 30.
