The initial stages of a £100,000 refurbishment at a Carlton Colville play park have been completed.

A new multi-use games area and play equipment are now available for the public to enjoy at Carlton Meadow Park.

The park was identified as one of several play areas in need of development following an evaluation of council-owned play space by Sentinel Leisure Trust last year.

The Trust, along with Waveney Norse, Carlton Colville Town Council (CCTC) and Waveney District Council (WDC) have invested £100,000 of Section 106 developer contributions to fund the three-stage refurbishment.

Waveney Norse has completed the first two stages of the project. The final stage includes the creation of a concrete skate park and landscaping.

Graham Catchpole, WDC's cabinet member for operational partnerships, said: 'Play and exercise is essential for the physical and mental wellbeing of our children and young people.

'The council is committed to investing in projects which will increase physical activity and improve participation I sport across all ages.'

He added: 'The improvements at Carlton Meadow Park, along with planned refurbishments at several other play areas in the district, provide local residents with a modern and vibrant community space for all ages to enjoy.'

Jill Tyler, vice chairman of CCTC, said: 'The council is delighted with the new play equipment and multi-use games area.

'It is hoped that the whole community will get extensive use out of this and it will encourage children of all ages to get outside and active.'

In addition to Carlton Meadow Park, several other play areas in Waveney will also be using Section 106 contributions to improve facilities.

New toddler and junior play equipment will be installed at Rosedale Park in south Lowestoft.

A toddler play area will be delivered at Granville Road, Lowestoft, providing a much needed play space close to the town centre.

Improvements will also be made to the play space at Stoven Close, Lowestoft.

Following a successful application to the Tesco Bags for Life scheme which received strong support from local residents, toddler play equipment will be installed at Gainsborough Drive, in Halesworth.
