Live music and a few pints of ale have been helping Norfolk villagers raise money to save their community centre.
Broads Music Festival, held on Filby playing field yesterday, was organised by locals campaigning to repair Stokesby's 130-year-old village hall. The decades have taken their toll on the historic community hub - home to dozens of groups from the parish council to the young farmers, but determined villagers have set their sights on raising £35,000 to repair the wooden floor and original roof, to overhaul the kitchen and ensure the building stands for another 130 years.
Residents have already managed to secure £10,000 from the Big Lottery Awards For All scheme, £5,000 from the Foyle Foundation and £4,000 from the Geoffrey Watling charity. And they have raised £7,000 themselves through fetes, table top sales, music nights and other fundraisers.
This weekend's mini music festival in neighbouring Filby, which featured bands including the UK Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones Now, food stalls and a beer tent, was their latest event.
