A popular trainee electrician who prompted an outpouring of fund raising support from the community for a bionic leg after being diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer has died at the age of 21.

Billy Lee remained positive after having his leg amputated last year and within just eight weeks a Go Fund Me page raised the money needed to buy him a state of the art prosthetic limb enabling him to get back on his two feet.

Billy passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning.

There will be a memorial service for Billy at 11am on Saturday June 4 at Wisbech St Mary church.

Throughout his ordeal his parents Bex and Spencer praised their son’s optimism in the face of such adversity but his dad Spencer said earlier this year: “Behind closed doors, Billy has had to come to terms with not having a leg. It’s a lot for a young man to have to go through.

“There are ups and downs, so we take every day as it comes.”

Billy worked for Bloom and Wake after studying electronics at the College of West Anglia.
