A Norwich band and Great Yarmouth artist have scooped an award for their 'ground-breaking' multimedia extravaganza at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
KlangHaus - created by The Neutrinos and Sal Pittman, and described as being part gig, part live art installation - was presented with the ThreeWeeks Editors' Award after wowing critics throughout the show's run at Edinburgh's Summerhall.
'Every now and then a show comes along that seems to us to really sum up what the Fringe is, and ought to be about, a stage for the most inventive, different and ground-breaking of performances,' said Chris Cooke, editor of the festival magazine ThreeWeeks.
'The Neutrinos and Sal Pittman used the building itself as one of their tools, in a musical, multimedia extravaganza that crosses genre boundaries. It was a collision of genres and styles that I can only describe as an avant garde, multi-sensory music experience.'
The award came after KlangHaus had already attracted an array of great reviews from theatre critics including The Guardian's Lyn Gardner and The Times' Donald Hutera. Broadcaster, comedian and theatre-maker Mark Thomas also tweeted 'New most favourite thing ever. Klanghaus @ summerhall.'
A different version of the show was also performed at Norwich Arts Centre during this year's Norfolk and Norwich Festival in May.
The Neutrinos singer Karen Reilly said: 'We're so excited to be here and to have had such a wonderful time. It's hard work performing 2 or 3 shows a day but due to public demand we had to add extra ones and they all sold out too.
'To win an award from ThreeWeeks, who are one of the longest established and most respected Fringe publications, exceeds all our expectations. The acclaim we've had from such eminent critics is astonishing. And I must thank the support we've had from the teams from Arts Council England's Escalator East To Edinburgh scheme and Norwich Arts Centre. We literally wouldn't have been here without them.'
