A fundraising page has been set up for the family of a Gorleston couple who died in a motorcycle crash in Scotland.

John Cooper, 58, and Sharon Cooper, 56, were killed when the Harley Davidson they were riding collided with a Landrover Freelander.

Now a donation page has been set up by Piers Hall to help the family who face paying to bring the bodies home and for a double funeral.

More than £5000 of a £10,000 target has been raised so far with 133 people supporting the appeal.

Writing on the website Mr Hall said the page had been set up 'to try and help their young family with this awful situation, and hopefully provide some on-going support.'

He said the couple had just attended the Wallace Rally with friends from East Coast Harley Club, and won Best Club Turnout on their first visit to Scotland.

The couple were starting their journey home when they were involved in the fatal collision.

He went on: 'They were both such amazing, lovely people, and will be very, very missed indeed.

'Please give what you can, as it will be most appreciated.'

People leaving messages on the site spoke of their deep sadness and offered their condolences.

Joe Coates making a donation said: 'In memory of dear friends who will be sadly missed.

'My Friday nights will never be the same again RIP John (Cooperman). RIP Sharon - a lovely person, will miss our chats putting the world to rights.'

Helen Wraight wrote: 'Truly one of the nicest couples we've ever known, will be greatly missed by many, heartbroken for their family.'

Mrs Cooper worked at Gorleston's James Paget University for over 25 years, most recently in the plaster room where she was well-known for her cheery character, putting patients at ease.

The couple lived in Middleton Road, Gorleston. They had two children and were grandparents.

In a statement Police Scotland said they were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the double fatal road traffic crash which happened on the A76 at Sanquhar on Sunday May 28.

It added: 'A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal relating to the deaths of the two people killed when their Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a Landrover Freelander.

'The circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation.'
