Pupils from a Thetford primary school spread festive cheer across their town visiting four local care homes and groups to bring Christmas spirit in to the local community.

Norwich Road Academy choir, which includes around 60 pupils from Years 4 to 6, walked to Thetford and District Dementia Support Group, Priorsmead Care Home, Ford Place Care Home and Alexander Court Care Home over the course of a fortnight to sing Christmas carols and songs.

The pupils had the opportunity to wish the members, residents and their carers a happy Christmas before returning to the academy.

Viv Hunt, teacher and choir leader at Norwich Road Academy, said: 'Combining our thriving choir with a desire to connect more with local people has given our pupils and the groups we visited a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some festive fun.

'The children in our academy love singing and it is a real strength of ours so we are delighted that members of our local community have been able to share in this passion at Christmas'.

Karen Adams, activities coordinator at Ford Place Care Home, said: 'We would like to thank the children of Norwich Road Academy for visiting us and making it very special for the residents. They have not stopped talking about it and the choir gave residents a wonderful Christmas spirit'.

Jo Cooper, TADDS trustee, said: 'It was a lovely start to the festive season and it made a lot of the group members a little emotional. The children did the academy and its staff proud and we hope to be able to welcome them back next year'.
