Work is under way to open a new riverside cafe in the heart of a Norfolk town.

Plans lodged with South Norfolk Council could see Bridge Stores in Loddon transformed into two new retail units and a cafe.

Bridge Stores is a newsagent, convenience store and an off licence which has been based in the town for many years.

The new proposals would see the building at 41 Bridge Street fitted with tall glass windows and doors to allow customers to enjoy views over Loddon Marina and the river Chet.

The town's high street has expanded over the last few months with the opening of Loddon Deli and Coffee and the return of Rosy Lee's Tea Room.

Work has already begun to refurbish the Bridge Stores unit, despite the planning application still being under consideration by South Norfolk Council.

It is expected that the changes will provide a "valuable resource" to the community for "years to come", although it is not confirmed which businesses will occupy the two retail spaces.
