A disqualified biker with three previous dangerous driving convictions has been jailed for causing a hit-and run crash that seriously injured a mobility scooter user.

Jamie Pymm, 51, had been repeatedly overtaking and accelerating his motorcycle through slower moving traffic when he hit the disabled man as he attempted to cross the A149 at Heacham.

The double amputee required extensive treatment for injuries including a fractured hip following the crash near the entrance to the Lynn Road BP filling station on May 16 last year.

Norwich Crown Court, sitting at King’s Lynn, was told Pymm was banned from driving at the time and had failed to stop following the crash, only being arrested following a police appeal.

He appeared in court having been convicted of five offences including causing serious injury by careless driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified, having no insurance and riding a bike unfit to be on the road.

Judge Alice Robinson said he had shown a “flagrant disregard” for being disqualified and had ignored obvious hazards by “driving faster than surrounding traffic and continuously overtaking other vehicles”.

Prosecutors had told the court he had ridden over no-overtaking road markings and into a right turn meant for oncoming traffic.

Pymm, of Ingolside in Snettisham, had been convicted of dangerous driving in 1997 and 2010 and driving while disqualified in 2001 and 2004, the court was told.

He was still banned at the time of the crash after failing to take an extended retest following a 27 disqualification imposed in 2020 for another dangerous driving offence.

Jailing him for eight months, Judge Robinson said only an immediate prison sentence was justified due to his “litany of convictions”.

She said his “catalogue of offending” was exacerbated by the victim being a vulnerable road user.

He was also disqualified for three years and four months.
