More Norwich streets are to be covered by permit parking, which will affect hundreds of people.

A number of streets in Lakenham will have permit parking introduced for the first time.

And the hours of operation on some roads around Bracondale will be extended.

The changes were agreed by the Norwich highways agency committee - made up of city and county councillors - today.

In Lakenham, permit parking will be introduced from 8am until 6.30pm Monday to Saturday in Arnold Miller Close, Arnold Miller Road, Birkbeck Close, Birkbeck Road, part of Hall Road, Huxley Close, Huxley Road, Keyes Close, Keyes Road, part of Long John Hill, Longmead, part of Mansfield Lane, Martineau Lane, Mendham Close, Netherwood Green, Suncroft and Sunny Hill.

A decision over part of Barrett Road has been put on hold for further consultation.

But limiting waiting on the car park outside the Long John Hill shops to one hours and two hours concerned Kelly Bray, who runs the pod hair salon in Long John Hill.

She said: 'I am very concerned about the future of the salon.

'We need longer than two hours parking for our clients as colours and colour corrections can take far longer than two hours.'

In response to her concerns, officers suggested three four hour spaces could be created in Arnold Miller Road.

But they said that could not be purely for the salon's use and conceded other drivers could use those spaces.

Around Bracondale, current permit parking bays will be extended to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The roads affected include City Road, Doman Road, Kensington Place, part of Cricket Ground Road, Carshalton Road, Carlisle Road, Corton Road, Carrow Road and Southgate Lane.

Norwich City Council sells residents annual parking permits for between £21.60 to £50.40, depending on vehicle length. It also sells visitor permits.
