I worked at NULIS in Melbourne when John was the managing director. He used to prowl about the building at night so I often saw him when I was working late. He was such a nice friendly chap and had a genuine interest in the work, and he'd always share his expensive cigarettes. In the company canteen, he could always be relied on for a big piece of fish on Friday, I used to collect for my cat. I still remember John because he was a truly genuine person, everything about him was decent and authentic.

John and T/L Dennis Bower were a pleasure to work for at Norwich Union. John worked incredibly hard, including weekends at his hideout in Bacton. Great sense of humour and an all round lovely guy. I'm blessed to have known him. Sending condolences to his lovely wife Sue, John's daughter, Louise, and his family and friends. Fly high John!
