A team of 13 Level 1 Creative Media students formed their own production company, called Young East Visuals, to run the festival.

They have set up everything themselves, from the website to fundraising, and members of the public are invited to watch the work of future filmmakers of the region at a special showcase at Cinema City this Monday from 9.30am.

The show is free, although there is a suggested donation of £2 per person to cover running costs. The screening is due to last approximately one-and-a-half hours.

Jacob Freeman has curated the event. He said, 'My team and I have been looking through hundreds of films produced by the Level 1, 2 and 3 media students at City College to find the best ones to show in our festival. We have found many amazing films to show, they are all spectacular but we have chosen the best of the best. Every single video is unique, some will scare you, some will make you cry, some will make you laugh and some will, hopefully, make you get up and dance!'

Publicity manager Kyle Walker said: 'This has been a great experience. We have done everything from filming to making a YouTube channel and we've learnt a lot about social media too. Since the start of the course my confidence has grown a lot – I've learnt to engage with people about our festival and now I feel confident about going up to anyone and talking to them!'

Fellow student Edward Adeyemi oversaw the whole project. He said, 'It's been interesting to see how well people have worked together to make sure the festival is a big success. I'm really proud of every single one of our members.'

Kyle added: 'We've been working very closely with the Young Norfolk Arts Festival team and I'd like to thank them for all their support and encouragement.'

Lecturer Dorian Cozens said, 'We are so enormously proud of the way the young people have handled this huge project. They were a bit nervous at first but they have excelled themselves. They have done everything. I really hope people will come and support them – and watch some amazing, diverse films, which really show the truth about young people and what they are passionate about.'

The Creative Media Film Festival is at Cinema City in Norwich on Monday from 9.30am.
