It's 70 years since Indian independence.
The Norfolk & Norwich Festival teams up with Writers' Centre Norwich to mark this special year by bringing Siddhartha Bose's state of the nation epic, No Dogs, No Indians, to Norwich Arts Centre.
Bose's drama follows the lives of three generations. Rani (Komal Amin) is a 1930s republican, keen to free India from its oppressors; Shyamal (Omar Khan) is a Shakespeare loving anglophile in 1960s Kolkata, disappointed not to be in England. 2017 reveals the successful modern Indian as a hedonist, stripped of morality by the commercial trappings of Western society.
The atmosphere is elegiac and the stories, desperately sad. One final episode sees the republican turn suicide bomber, which some found difficult in the light of Monday's events.
Performances shine in this dark play. Archana Ramaswamy as the chorus is particularly engaging, as she shares the regrets of her post-colonial world.
