Artist Eloise O'Hare steamed into first place in this year's Paint Out Norwich competition with a colourful artwork inspired by train tracks at Norwich Railway Station.
Keeping Track of Time was the name of the watercolour and ink painting, and during the Paint Out festivities Ms O'Hare also impressed with another picture of football fans, including Ed Balls and Delia Smith, heading to Carrow Road to watch the Norwich City v Hull City football last Saturday.
Ms O'Hare was one of about 30 artists taking part in this year's Paint Out Norwich. Across three days they created more than 200 works inspired by our fine city, and the competition's winners were announced at an event at Norwich Cathedral's Hostry on Wednesday.
James Colman, Paint Out Norwich founder, said: '2017 has been our most exciting year yet, not only in terms of the quality produced, but its diversity, and I have been blown away by the enthusiasm of the artists taking part...they get three days of intensive art experience in a competitive environment, leaving as better artists, and with friends for life, and Norwich gains a living record of three days in October.'
Emily Faludy won the oil category with her riverside painting called Morning Illumination while another waterside painting by Ginny Bain, called Safety Railings onto the River Wensum, won the mixed and other media category. The watercolour prize was presented to Andrew Horrod for Five Past Four, Gunton Building painted outside Norwich University of the Arts, and Beverley Coraldean scooped the illustration and printing prize for Café Britannia - A Sunny October Afternoon. The Nocturne competition was won by Robert Nelmes for a scene outside Grosvenor Fish Bar called Sasha Eating His Chips.
Artist John Behm was named the Spirit of Plein Air winner and Alex Atkinson won the Spirit of Norwich. Judge's choice awards were given to Paul Alcock, Richard Bond, and Susan Field, and the winner of the public Paint Out event at Ketts Heights and Mousehold Heath was Paul Gadenne.
All the paintings can be seen at the free Paint Out Norwich exhibition at Norwich Cathedral's Hostry until October 28. Paint Out Norwich is part of the Hostry Festival - visit www.paintout.org or www.hostryfestival.org
