A former Norwich band is set to play their first gig in 27 years.

The Legendary Gazelles gigged around Norwich from late 1985 to July 1989, when they split up due to geographical — rather than the usual musical — differences.

Now they will return on a night of guitar based bands at this month's Eclectic night at Gringos on Prince of Wales Road in Norwich on October 14.

The band, made up of Stuart Harrad (aka Tufty) on guitar and vocals, Dave Stevens (aka Shakey) on guitar, bassist Steve Oates (aka Joe) and Ian Alexander (aka Steamin) on drums, were formed originally formed for a one off gig at the Turgid Lemming talent contest.

For about four years they played various gigs at around Norwich including The Jacquard, Norwich Arts Centre, the UEA and The Kings Head. Many of the gigs were benefits for causes such as NIREX out of Norfolk, Poll Axe The Poll Tax, the Norwich Venue Campaign and Comic Relief.

They never gigged outside of their native Norwich, but had many good reviews. Possibly the highlight of their career was a few mentions by the late John Peel.

Despite continuing geographical differences, the band recently got back together for rehearsals. This was mainly for their own amusement, but with the aim of playing an occasional gig and the Eclectic night will be their first in 27 years. Expect some new songs as well as a selection of Gazelle 'classics'.

Also on the bill will be Jacob Solstice and The Cosmic Order, who are a guitar led instrumental band merging rock, jazz, prog, and surf influences, and Desert Sleds, who play original raw high energy rock influenced by bands of the early 70s with a punk energy to drive it.

The night starts from 8.15 pm and entry is £2.
