Just do something with the Pontins site, is all I would ask owners Northern Trust, and if it means residential and no holiday connection that would be fine.

It's all very well for villagers to say they want it as a holiday site but there just isn't a call for it, otherwise why would Pontins have been taken out? It obviously needed investment to bring it up to today's standards, but the cost far outweighed what it would have brought in. Simple economics really.

And I was incensed at the parish council chairman saying, and I quote: 'Before, they wanted to put in a row of shops and a pub but we do not want any more of that,' and instead demands a medical centre and a footpath! So people from the old village will trek to the new estate?

It seems the people of Hemsby want to deny the people who buy houses there - and most could be local - the chance to do their bits and bobs shopping or have a pint without a long, long walk.

Words nearly failed me, but one came to mind nimbyism.
