One reader was furious that he had to pay a £60 parking fine, all because the ticket machine experienced a printing error

I have just paid a fine of £60 (reduced from £100 for prompt payment) for parking for 21 minutes on the Millers Walk shoppers car park in Fakenham, which is free for the first two hours.

My crime? Failing to spot that the ticket machine had not printed the first two letters of my registration number. The ticket was prominently displayed on the dashboard and it was still obvious it matched the vehicle registration, so I can only suspect the over zealous attendant was being paid by result.

As no parking fee was required, I appealed to National Parking Enforcement Ltd for the application of common sense, but this was refused.

Fakenham Town Council is doing its traders no service. In future we shall give the town centre a miss on our regular visits to the coast.
