Ongoing roadworks in Eaton and Cringleford are intended to improve traffic flows and provide dedicated cycle lanes for the convenience and safety of cyclists.
The latest work has been to provide three-stage traffic lights to control all vehicles crossing the Cringleford bridge. This means that virtually every vehicle, in both directions, now has to wait for some time before getting the green light to cross.
Now, at the two places where vehicles queue for the lights to change, there is a very noticeable cloud of exhaust gases hanging in the air.
Clearly, these noxious fumes will be very damaging to the health of those cyclists queuing at the lights. I believe this awful situation cannot be allowed to continue.
I call upon the city and parish councils and the traffic planners to immediately close the Cringleford bridge to all motorised traffic.
