Ellena Rocks at North Norfolk Worm Charming Championships

A family-of-three made a winning debut debut at the North Norfolk Worm Charming Championships at Barton Turf, near Neatishead, on Sunday.

The team, named Eleanor Rocks, caught a total of 22 worms by using a borrowed fork and hitting the ground with sticks.

The winners, who were one of nine teams to enter the competition, were presented with an engraved fork as their prize.

Visitors were also given the opportunity to try canoeing or take a boat trip on Barton Broad during the Go Wild at Barton Turf event, part of the Broads Outdoors Festival.

The family fun day also included pond-dipping, wildlife trails, geocaching and craft activities.

Sailing instructor Di Smith, who organised the worm charming championships at Barton Turf Adventure Centre, said: 'It was great.'

On Saturday, the Broads Authority held its annual open morning at Whitlingham Country Park, Trowse.

Highlights included pond dipping, badge making and a chance to chat to staff.
