Despite the grey leaden skies at the weekend some 2000 people took advantage of a big offer to an attraction that celebrates all things small.

Merrivale Model Village on Great Yarmouth seafront hosted two of its famous £1 on Saturday and Sunday.

Owner Frances Newsome said the weekend was 'very successful' and that she was heartened by the positive feedback.

The event is staged as an out-of-season treat for local people and one that aims to deliver a boost to other businesses in the area.

And this year it was a chance for its new owners to introduce people to the programme of events being planned for Halloween and Christmas.

For the first time the gardens will open for the October half term offering fun attractions and a spooky gnome trail.

Meanwhile plans are also underway to bring Christmas to Merrivale for the first time since the village was built in the 1960s.
