Great Yarmouth offshore firm 3sun Group has successfully clinched a £1m contract for a North Sea oil and gas exploration and production company.

The significance of the project is that it will see the Boundary Road company leading the refurbishment of equipment and panels on a gas platform from start to finish.

The work posed significant challenges as the ageing systems had become unreliable and replacement parts were no longer available - 3sun Group was able to develop solutions to address the reliability and obsolescence issues. Neil Tawse, regional director for 3sun Group, said: 'This project truly demonstrates our game-changing and cohesive approach. Being involved in the job from launch to completion has meant that we have been able to guarantee a consistent and thorough service throughout.'

3sun Group initially carried out a survey of everything above the platform's waterline. This led to a detailed report on its condition with recommendations for the removal of old parts and the installation of any replacements.

3sun Group was subsequently awarded the contract for the design, manufacturing and provision of the replacement panels, to be installed during the next planned shutdown of the platform early next year, and a solution for the decommissioning and removal of the old panels.

Mr Tawse said: 'Our quality of service and commitment to the project has resulted in a potential through-life support service contract, which would see us provide all aspects of future support for the platform, and work more closely to help ensure that the new system is maintained regularly.'

CEO Graham Hacon said: 'Following the acquisition of RRC Controls Services, the group is able to offer the global subsea market a full turnkey engineering solution by combining our collective knowledge and experience.

'This contract is testament to our commitment to deliver expert advice and execution. We look at the big picture and identify the ways we can add value as a group. We are able to work on ageing platforms to adapt new technologies, providing longevity to the platform's operations and cost benefits to our clients.'

The rapidly growing group employs more than 300 staff offshore and onshore and is currently working on oil and gas and renewables projects in the UK and Europe.
