Norwich, US was founded by settlers in 1659, led by Northamptonshire explorer Major John Mason.
Land was then divided up for businesses and farms.
By the 18th century with a public landing built on the Thames River, trade began to thrive in the city and shipping replaced farming as the predominant trade.
The 19th century saw the cities official buildings, including the city hall, courts and post office built along the river in the Chelsea neighbourhood and the former centre is now referred to as Norwichtown.
